Three dashboards, one chat, $1M in new ARR

How Randall Reilly's trapped trucking data became Stratas Assistant, a product 90% of their clients adopted.

the setup

Randall Reilly sits on years of proprietary trucking industry data. Hiring markets, driver demographics, employment trends by region. Their clients paid for access to it. Most never used it.

The data lived in three separate dashboards. Each one needed training to operate, and real questions needed someone technical to build the query. So the answers stayed buried, and the platform stayed underused.

my role

General Dev, Will McLellarn's agency, brought me in to lead the build. It was the two of us, and the lines blurred the way they do on a two-person team. Will's an engineer who built parts of this too. I made product calls along the way. But ownership was clear: Will owned the product, and I owned the technical side. Architecture, the AI layer, and the code itself. I built it and I made it work.

what we built

A chat interface that sits on top of all three systems. A recruiting leader types a question in plain English and gets the answer in seconds, with the context that makes it useful: how the number compares to similar markets and where it's trending.

Example query

“What's the average cost to hire drivers in Texas?”

Response

“Average hiring cost: $2,840. Similar markets: Oklahoma ($2,650), Arkansas ($2,720). Texas hiring volume is up 12% QoQ. Want me to break that down by metro area?”

The assistant also works ahead of the question. It suggests similar markets, flags trends, and surfaces comparisons nobody would have dug out of the old dashboards on their own.

what happened

Platform usage

Usage tripled within months of launch. The insights were always there. Now people could reach them.

90%
Client adoption

When Randall Reilly launched it as a paid SaaS product, 90% of existing clients opted in right away.

$1M+
New ARR

Data they already owned became a product clients pay for. Over a million dollars in new recurring revenue from an asset that was sitting idle.

don't take my word for it

General Dev published their own case study of this project, and Randall Reilly launched the product publicly as Stratas Assistant. Here's Will on working with me:

“Stop considering and work with Carlos. He's been an incredible asset to my business, clear on strategy, excellent communicator, and the rare kind of builder who can actually ship. He led, contributed, and taught along the way, and brought real passion to every project.”

Sitting on data your customers can't reach? I take one, maybe two clients at a time, and right now there's room for one more.
